Telling people about a game without telling them anything about the game.

The Last of Us II was one of the most highly anticipated sequels in video game history, and preventing leaks was a top priority for the developer Naughty Dog.

So how do you advertise a game when 99% of the details are off limits? Including the fact that [Spoiler removed since everyone is watching the HBO show now.]

The solution was to focus on Ellie, telegraphing the narrative arc of the game via small changes to her face and minimal sound design. Selling the promise of this emotionally and morally complex Game-of-the-Year winning game, without giving away any of its secrets.
